Ranee Management Ltd.

Ranee Management Limited, formerly Zolty Holdings Ltd., “is a multifamily investment company and owns over 7,500 units in the Greater Toronto Area.” The real number of units owned by the Zolty family is significantly higher than that but is obscured by their corporate ownership structure. Ranee Management Limited does not, for instance, own the Goodwood apartments. But the Zolty family sure does! While Ranee manages the properties, the Zolty family owns 100, 102, 104, 106 and 108 Goodwood Park through a company called Goodwood Apartments Limited. 

 

The Zolty real estate dynasty has been profiting off rental housing for over 65 years, across three generations. On top of their massive real estate portfolio, the Zolty family has also built their wealth off businesses tangential to the multifamily real estate market. David Zolty co-founded TNT Appliances, a coin laundry and appliances sales and service company. David’s sons Mark and Mitch have furthered the family dynasty with their work at MetCap Living Management and Brass Enterprises Inc., a real estate investment company focused exclusively on multifamily properties. They now run a real estate advisory company called Prism Multifamily Group Inc.

Bruno Zolty

Bruno and Morris Zolty began Zolty Holdings Ltd. in 1965. In 1982, the company became Ranee Management Limited. It is unclear what Bruno’s relationship is to Ranee Management currently, though he is still listed as the President. 

Phyllis Friedman

Director, Goodwood Apts.

Phyllis Friedman is the daughter of Ranee Management’s founder Morris Zolty. She is also the director of Goodwood Apartments Limited and the owner of 100, 102, 104, 106 and 108 Goodwood Park. Ben Friedman is Phyllis’ husband, David Zolty’s business partner and the current president of Goodwood Apartments Limited.

David Zolty inherited the massive real estate portfolio of the Zolty family from his father Morris Zolty. He is also the co-founder of TNT appliances and an executive officer of Goodwood Apartments Limited. 

The Zolty/Friedman family are also the owners of Rykka Care Centres. Three of Rykka centres – Hawthorne Place, Eatonville and Anson Place – have come under intense scrutiny for allowing the spread of COVID-19 amongst its residents.

“Worst building I ever lived in at 1850 Bloor St. Mississauga. The building has bed bugs and the building is filthy and disgusting. The superintendent doesn't want to clean at all and is lazy. The important thing for them is that they put an advertisement outside saying luxury renovated suites. Yeah right! Rent is astronomically expensive and they increased my rent by 4.7% and parking and hydro is extra. Besides all of that, I need to live in filth and garbage everyday. Will be moving soon!”
